Our Customer
Las Vegas Sands is a Fortune 500 company and leading global developer of destination properties that feature premium accommodations, world-class gaming and entertainment, convention and exhibition facilities, celebrity chef restaurants, and many other amenities. The hotel follows the comprehensive Sands ECO 360° Global Sustainability program that features an array of best practices in four integral areas: green buildings, environmentally responsible operations, green meetings, and stakeholder engagement. Collectively, The Palazzo, The Venetian and the Sands Expo and Convention Center represent one of the largest LEED-certified buildings in the world.
“We tested products from many manufacturers, and either they weren't bright enough or created too much shadow on the ceiling,” said Rishi Tirupari, assistant director of Sustainability for Las Vegas Sands. “That's when we realized we needed a custom product that answered multiple needs.”
Our Solution
Current worked to create an LED candelabra lamp that satisfied the needs of Las Vegas Sands by delivering lower wattage, higher lumens and the right color temperature for the resort's unique aesthetics.
Las Vegas Sands replaced traditional incandescent candelabra lamps that use 20 to 40 watts per bulb with Current's new 4.5-watt LED Candelabra Lamps. Current's LED Candelabra Lamp delivers a higher lumen output (250 lumens) than the resort's previous incandescent lamps; provides the right color temperature (2400K) to maintain the current look within The Venetian|The Palazzo Las Vegas; minimizes shadows on the ceiling; and creates “sparkle” in the resort's expensive chandeliers. Hotel executives evaluating their hospitality lighting and operating costs can now take advantage of GE's latest technology with the new-to-market LED candelabra lamp.
“While it's easy to determine lumen requirements, it's more challenging to spec sparkle,” Tirupari said. “The new LED candelabra lamp needed to sparkle so we didn't lose the beauty of the crystal chandeliers in the casino. Plus, the lamp needed to be frosted in order to minimize shadow. Current's LED Candelabra was a great fusion of technology because their frosted element didn't interfere with the lamp's sparkle.”
Results & Benefits
After all 57,000 candelabra lamps are upgraded, the resort can expect to reduce its annual electricity consumption by more than 8 million kilowatt hours (kWh). This translates to a savings of more than $700,000 in annual lighting costs, which complements the $2 million Las Vegas Sands is already saving by utilizing Current's LED and compact fluorescent lamps in The Venetian|The Palazzo Las Vegas.
Las Vegas Sands also expects to reduce maintenance costs as the new LED lighting is being used in spaces that are lit all day, every day. Current's LED Candelabra Lamp features a 15,000-hour life, compared to the resort's previous 3,000-hour incandescent lamps.
“Strong relationships are made out of past performances and future innovations, so we were excited to once again collaborate with Current on energy-efficient hospitality lighting solutions,” said Norbert Riezler, senior vice president and chief procurement and sustainability officer at Las Vegas Sands.
